How to Import Used Cars from China: The Complete 2026 Guide

Why import used cars from China?

China is now the world's largest car exporter, and its used-vehicle market has matured fast. Buyers in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia and Latin America can source quality inspected vehicles at FOB prices well below many local markets — especially Chinese-brand EVs and hybrids that are scarce or expensive at home.

Step 1 — Get a transparent FOB quote

Ask for an FOB (Free On Board) price, not just a vague "landed" number. A proper quote states the exact vehicle, year, mileage, condition grade, and what is included. Reputable exporters return a quote with a 120-point inspection report within 12 hours.

  • Confirm the price is FOB China (you pay freight + insurance + destination duty separately).
  • Request chassis photos and a cold-start video before you pay anything.
  • Match steering (LHD/RHD) and vehicle age to your market's rules.

Step 2 — Inspect before you pay

Never skip the inspection. A third-party 120-point check covers engine, transmission, suspension, electronics, accident history and rust. The inspection report is your leverage: if the car is misrepresented, you walk away before money moves.

Step 3 — Choose shipping

Three options dominate: RoRo (roll-on/roll-off, cheapest for running cars), shared container (better protection), and China–Europe rail (fastest to Central Asia/Russia). Transit ranges from 10 days (rail) to 45 days (ocean container). See our container vs RoRo comparison to pick.

Step 4 — Documents & clearance

You will need a Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, Export Certificate (CCC) and the inspection report. Some markets add SONCAP, Form M or a conformity certificate. Our documents checklist covers the common ones. Clearing agents handle the rest at your port.

Step 5 — Receive & register

On arrival you get the full document pack and can register the vehicle locally. Keep the inspection report — it helps with resale value and any warranty claim.

Bottom line

Importing from China is straightforward when the exporter is transparent about price, inspection and paperwork. Start with a quote, verify the car, then ship. Need a specific model? Browse current stock or message us on WhatsApp for a tailored shortlist.
