The basics
"Drive side" refers to which side of the road traffic keeps to. Left-hand traffic (keep left) needs right-hand-drive (RHD) cars; right-hand traffic needs left-hand-drive (LHD). Matching this is non-negotiable — many markets refuse registration of the wrong side.

Exceptions & nuances
- Some markets allow temporary or tourist imports of either side — but permanent registration usually requires the local side.
- A few countries (e.g., parts of SE Asia) are mixed; always confirm the specific port/country rule.
- EVs still follow the same steering rule; homologation is the separate concern.
